I tried to look but my eyes turned down
I tried to run but I couldn't stand
And I tried to love but I just got broken
It seems my heart wasn't made for times like this
And I keep looking to find some melodies from all these sounds
And at the back of my mind I found these questions turning round...
Why don't more people sing the blues?
Why don't they shout it from the rooftops and tell it true?
Why don't they tear out their voices as they exclaim that they're just not gonna take it anymore?
Maybe their voices were taken away
Maybe they couldn't find the air to speak the words to say it
Maybe it's not a case of saying something loud and clear but whispering the words into someone's ear.
So I looked for friends but I just found lovers
And I looked at women but I just saw mothers
And my head is filled with a billion voices screaming:
Why can't we give women the respect they need?
And I keep looking to find some melodies from all these sounds
And at the back of my mind I found this question turning round...
Why don't more people sing the blues?
Why don't they shout it from the rooftops and tell it true?
Why don't they tear out their voices as they exclaim that they're just not gonna take it anymore?
Not gonna take it anymore
Not gonna take it anymore
No they're not gonna take it anymore
No not gonna take it anymore.
